
Bulawayo’s Ward 23 Councillor, Solomon Mguni, has been elected the new mayor for Zimbabwe’s second largest city after garnering 17 votes, beating his contender Norman Hlabano of Ward 26, who polled 12 votes during the elections held at the Council Chambers Friday.

The Zimbabwe Development Democracy Trust (ZDDT), which enjoys a Memorandum of Understanding with Bulawayo City Council, had the privilege of being invited to witness the swearing-in of the city’s new councillors.

Three former Bulawayo councillors, beneficiaries of the Zimbabwe Development Democracy Trust (ZDDT) leadership training programme, have gone a step further from local government to represent their constituents in Parliament.

Elizabeth Mabhena, a Community Action Team (CAT) leader from Bulawayo’s Ward 13, who attended a recent Citizens Dialogue in Mpopoma, has said she learnt a lot at the special meeting.
