Sizinda Green Gardens members have recorded a promising milestone after turning their agricultural produce into another income-generating opportunity through value addition.

The initiative, supported through practical training, is helping the gardeners explore new ways of processing, marketing and earning from their harvests.

Sizinda Green Gardens has celebrated a significant achievement after receiving its first payment from the sale of pickled curried vegetables prepared by members following value-addition cooking lessons led by Mrs 'CJ' Van.

The ZDDT’s Chef’s Academy training equipped members with food preservation and processing skills, enabling them to transform fresh produce into marketable products and generate additional income.

The milestone highlights the growing potential of value addition to improve the sustainability and profitability of community gardens. Members said the success has motivated them to expand production of pickled vegetables and explore other value-added products, creating new opportunities to increase household incomes and reduce post-harvest losses.
