Broiler chickens in the Green Gardens poultry project in Sizinda

Green Gardens Market Garden in Sizinda is intensifying its agricultural activities through poultry production, with an improved broiler chicken project expected to boost income and strengthen financial sustainability.

Green Gardens has ventured into the concept of a three-week-old broiler chicken project, rather than the traditional “day old chick” model, thereby reducing mortality and doubling cash flow. It is expected to generate additional income and strengthen the community initiative’s financial sustainability.

The project, supported by the Zimbabwe Development Democracy Trust (ZDDT), marks a strategic effort to diversify the garden’s revenue streams beyond vegetable production and expand opportunities for economic growth.

The initiative is expected to generate revenue through broiler sales, enabling members to reinvest proceeds into other productive activities and strengthen the garden’s financial base.

By combining poultry farming with horticulture, Green Gardens is embracing an entrepreneurial approach to sustainable livelihoods and improved nutrition, demonstrating how diversified community enterprises can build financial resilience and create a stronger foundation for long-term growth.
