The increased variety of crops grown at Ekuphumuleni Geriatric Nursing Home’s (EGNH) gardening project has changed the elderly’s daily diet. The garden was resuscitated in March 2021 with help from Zimbabwe Development Democracy Trust (ZDDT).

“My wish is to have a piece of land, where I can put my new skills into practice and produce vegetables to help my family and others in the process,” said Allan Milano Ndlovu, an outgoing student at the horticulture training school.

During a discussion on the ZDDT WhatsApp based Garden Information Platform, the Zimbabwe Development of Democracy Trust Horticulture Consultant, Yvonne Berkhout, said that certain types of citrus trees can bear fruit all year round, mainly oranges and lemons.
