Achieving Sustainability Through Information Dissemination

In a bid to enhance the productivity and sustainability of the Zimbabwe Development Democracy Trust (ZDDT) community market gardens, a comprehensive Train the Trainer programme is fully underway across all sites across Bulawayo.

This programme aims to equip selected garden members with essential skills, knowledge and expertise in various aspects of gardening.

The ultimate goal is to transform these trained individuals into leaders in garden management who will then disseminate this valuable information to all gardeners, ensuring that everyone implements these crucial lessons effectively.

By selecting individuals who show dedication and a passion for horticulture and through intensive training sessions conducted by experienced agricultural experts, participants are exposed to a wide array of topics essential for successful gardening practices.

From identifying common pests and diseases to implementing sustainable pest control methods, from understanding the appropriate application of fertilisers and chemicals to mastering soil enrichment techniques, participants receive comprehensive guidance that equips them with the expertise needed to address various challenges encountered in garden management and, ultimately, improve productivity.

Upon completion of the training programme, these newly well-appointed individuals transition into leadership roles within their respective community gardens.

As trainers, they take on the responsibility of sharing their acquired knowledge with fellow gardeners, ensuring that best practices are implemented uniformly across all plots.

This cascading effect, not only enhances overall productivity, but also fosters a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the market gardening community.
