ZDDT donates to disabled boy

The Zimbabwe Development Democracy Trust [ZDDT] donated R 1000.00, to Tofara Marufu, an 11 year old disabled boy in Gweru as part of its Social Responsibility Programme. The money will be used to buy him school uniforms.

Recently ZDDT launched its Business Social Credits scheme, with the aid of Bulawayo based business, and plans to expand the concept countrywide.

Officiating at the event, the organisation’s representative, Mr. Lewis Jones, gave a brief background of the Trust and its work. He stressed the importance placed by ZDDT on encouraging residents to restore their Communities, through working with elected Councillors, as entailed in its popular Sebenzela/Work for Programme.

About 30 people, including several representatives from Civil Society, attended the Presentation Ceremony, where the cash donation was handed over to the boy’s emotionally overwhelmed father, Mr. Tranus Marufu, who has 7 other children, besides Tofara. Flanked by his spouse and little boy, Mr. Marufu thanked everyone at ZDDT, for showing this gesture of generosity. ‘I am at a loss for words. All I can say is that God has a hand in this. I thank Him and all who have helped our boy by way of this donation.’

Speaking at the same occasion, Councillor M. K. Sithole of Ward 7, Gweru, said, ‘We are all too aware of the good work that ZDDT does among communities. I look forward to working with them in our Ward’s up-coming cleanup campaign.’

The event was organized by dedicated and hard working social activist, Mr. Denny Munetsi, Chairman of The Gweru United Residents’ Association. He utilised his own resources, including the use of his office, in order to ensure the occasion’s success.
