A tale of Two Cities… and ZDDT
Written by Lewis Jones, ZDDT Field Correspondent Monday, 26 September 2011 12:38
BULAWAYO – City of Bulawayo, representative, Acting Senior Parks Officer, Mr. Sobhuku Dube, invited Team ZDDT to participate in an awareness tour of the City by his counterpart from Masvingo.
Local Councillor for Ward One, Edward Manning, whose presence had also been requested, declined due to a prior commitment.
According to Mr. Jotham Mazhura, Parks Superintendent at the City of Masvingo, the tour entailed a look and learn concept. He said this was aimed at assisting his Municipality provide enhanced services of relevance, through appropriate establishment and maintenance of parks and gardens.
The occasion afforded Mr. Mazhura the chance to witness a demonstration of grass and brush-cutting equipment, recently donated by ZDDT to the Bulawayo City Council, at its Tower Block gardens. He also witnessed an example of a drip irrigation installation at Ward 12, Njube Township.
The event is indicative of the Trust’s motive to establish excellent relations with Local Authorities throughout Zimbabwe.
It also reflects the positive publicity that has surrounded ZDDT’s Local Authority Capacity Building Programme, funded by GIZ, with assistance from the German Government.
