ZDDT launches new awards initiative in recognition of those that have contributed significant time and resources to community work.BULAWAYO - Within every society around the Globe, one finds individuals whose positive interventions in community work stand out as shining examples. Criteria they use may not necessarily be confined to any particular sector.
However the subjects being portrayed here have chosen to limit their beneficent activities to specific areas of concern. One elected to work with orphans, while the other has a long standing reputation in caring for the sick.
As a means of recognising outstanding achievements of this nature, ZDDT has introduced an awards initiative entitled Stars of Zimbabwe.
In this programme, the Trust honours winning candidates, by profiling their work and posting this on its Website, a means by which the philanthropic efforts of award winners receive International exposure.
Recipient for March, 2010, David Pocock, became the very first person to be honoured in this manner.
Dave is a young Zimbabwean rugby player who lives and works in Australia. He donates a substantial amount of his income and time, towards assisting an orphanage based in the Midlands city of Gweru; a project he developed.
Regina Bhebhe, 53 years of age, and winner of the award for April, 2010, has dedicated most of her adult life to caring for the sick.
She is noted for her exceptional achievements in research and advocacy work in the fields of communicable diseases such as TB and HIV/AIDS. Mrs. Bhebhe, a qualified laboratory scientist has received National and International acclaim for her work.
The Stars of Zimbabwe initiative, promoting community conscious people, is an initiative of ZDDT, sponsored by ECEZ.
