Shandira in Rusape Zimbabwe - A big success

Outfit and sports equipment boost Shandira Rusape efforts.

Shandira Rusape, yet only recently launched, already proves to be one of the most active and fruitful initiatives throughout Zimbabwe.

>> What is Shandira? <<

Only three months after its introduction, Shandira has been fully embraced by the communities in all ten wards of Rusape, nine of which belong to the three high density areas Mabvazuwa, Tsansaguru and Vengere.

The Shandira trainer covering the Rusape area is George Tauro. He attends all Shandira meetings, sports functions and other activities. Kidwell Gomana is the Rusape Town Council chairman and?plays a leading roll in co-ordinating events.

The popularity of Shandira Rusape is indeed also boosted by the councillors who had begun to mobilize the people in their wards before the introduction of the project. Several clean-ups had been done already.

The introduction of Shandira, however, has lifted the effort to a new level.

The activists recently handed over T-Shirts, caps, footballs and netballs to the councillors. To date no tools could be provided due to a lack of funding, but the work has been done using tools that have been supplied by the active and committed community.

The rain season has blessed us we hope we are going to have an abundant harvest that will take care of our needs for the this year.
The issue which remains at stake is the degradation that is going on and on unchecked. The hot spot still remains the old MAKONI COUNTRY CLUB. People are taking soil for construction purposes leaving scars that are so devastating to the environment. We are calling authorities to stop that practice which has been going on unchecked, the sad part of it is that even as Iam typing sand is being extracted. Anyone responsible please take action and as a suggestion those who are caught should be fined heavily so as to deter those who are intending to do the same.
The other issue is on preseving trees easpecially our local musasa ans many others species. There are areas where these trees are clustered in the uburn interior for instance those situated near the Makoni Old peoples home in Rusape i urge you to preseve such trees.

This time around I have noticed a sad state of the environment of some parts of the Rusape town.I saw pits out of which sand was taken for construction purposes, this has left the environment with deep and prolonged scars of degradation.Furthermore, pil es of rubbish lying desparately easpecially in the open space of the old MAKONI COUNTRY CLUB.The degradation of the environment is costly as it threateans human survival. The implications of the aforementioned habit that has grown so ugly, and unchecked is just disturbing as it accelarates diseases be they air borne, water borne etc.We urge people to be responsible for their soroundings by way of follong proper ways of waste disposal.Lets together make Rusape a better place to live.

Every Rusape dweller is advised to be responsible as far as keeping the city clean is concerned. We further urge you to dispose waste properly,if possible plastics should be recycled and other biodigradable waste should be disposed into pits and dont forget to pay bills so our town council can run efficiently thank you.

with regards
