Bulawayo, Zimbabwe
. In a clear indication of unselfish commitment and determination in fighting HIV/AIDS, members of Ward 28 (Cowdray Park) are in the process of producing a film to raise awareness of the pandemic.

The film, which is entitled “Sekwenzakele eKhalanyoni”, being filmed on location in the area, is in the post production stage after six weeks of shooting. It involved over 52 people including the Councillor, Collet Ndlovu, and his wife.

The HIV/AIDS awareness programme, which follows the story line of a promiscuous school teacher who eventually succumbs to the virus, is a community initiative by the residents. All the people involved as both cast and crew volunteered to take up the roles, and they are producing it with the assistance of the business fraternity operating within the neighbourhood.

“The message is to emphasize the importance of behaviour change. The movie is dwelling much on the consequences of HIV hence we can say we will be sending a strong message on behaviour change.”

“The participation by the community was astounding and, judging their positive responses during the shooting sessions, we are bound to make a massive impact in the community. People were really supporting each other, most of the women there are married and they received support from their husbands,” said Ward 28 C.A.T chairperson and lead character, Vusa Charles.
