Bulawayo residents warm to urban greening campaign
Written by Lewis Jones, ZDDT Field Correspondent Monday, 18 July 2011 12:59
BULAWAYO –With continued City of Bulawayo demonstrations of grass-cutting equipment, recently donated by ZDDT to support Service Delivery, the residents in the Wards are increasingly approaching the organisers with offers of assistance.

During previous exercises, several motorists and passers-by actually paused to enquire whether they could be of assistance to the gangs of City Parks and Cleansing services workers at the various sites.
In the latest show-case that took place at the busy Matopos Road and 23rd Avenue intersection in Ward Four, a kindly lady resident moved the generosity stakes a gear up, when she handed out sandwiches and mugs of hot tea to grateful workers, who braved the chilly weather in order to complete their tasks.
The demonstrations signify the initial stages in the next phase of ZDDT’s Local Authority Capacity Building Programme, aimed at improving living conditions of ordinary people in the City, by enhancing the capacity of the Local Authority to deliver effective services.
GIZ, assisted by the German Government, provides financial support to the Programme.
