Bulawayo residents continue to show an uncompromising attitude to rubbish

BULAWAYO, Zimbabwe – A concerted effort by Bulawayo Ward 12 residents to rid their neighbourhood of litter and illegal refuse dumps, continues unabated. The latest area to come under the uncompromising determination shown by a group of volunteer workers, is a section of Njube Township known as Malaba 10.

When Team ZDDT arrived on the scene, a cluster of people were busy at work, piling refuse at a site designated by the City Council as a communal dumping site. This site is periodically cleared by the Municipality.

Group leader among the cleaners, Mr. Zwelani Dube, said that the exercise was on-going. He added that residents, led by their Councillor, Mrs. Thembeni Khoza, were determined to bring the litter and illegal refuse dumping under control.

The clean-up campaign was conducted under the Trust’s SEBENZELA/Work for ... Programme which, through training and on-site interventions, aims to assist local communities in raising their living standards. The programme receives funding from a development partner which is closely linked to The Trust.
