Written by Lewis Jones, ZDDT Field Correspondent Monday, 21 November 2011 15:38
BULAWAYO, Zimbabwe – A visit to the recently held November, 2011, City of Bulawayo Full Council Meeting, indicated a marked improvement concerning Councillors performance in Chambers. This claim is based on assessments made by Team ZDDT members who were present at the Meeting.Attendance was 96% and represents 27 out of 29 Councillors, of whom 19 (64%) made debate contributions.
The Mayor, Cllr. P T Moyo, Ward 22, demonstrated his customary keen knowledge of Municipal Affairs and tendency for strong leadership. He kept tight control over proceedings.
Councillors were disciplined and respectful. They demonstrated a firm desire for adherence to the rule of law, transparency and accountability regarding utilisation of rate-payer’s money, a clean environment and profound pride in their City.
The Trust has been regularly attending these meetings, using them as a measuring stick to assess the progress and impact of its interventions in enhancing the capacity of Local Government.
