Bulawayo, Zimbabwe: Creating a people friendly workforce at the City Council

BULAWAYO, Zimbabwe - Accomplished trainer in Service Excellence, Leo Mupezani, recently wrapped up a series of workshops aimed at developing a more people friendly Local Authority work-force. Targeted employees were from middle management of the Bulawayo City Council various departments.

Aptly summing up the training, Patricia Mkhwananzi, an administrator from the Chamber Secretary’s Department, remarked; “Public officers often forget to be polite when dealing with residents. This is either through ignorance or just plain apathy. The workshop has gone a long way towards alerting those concerned about their obligations to the public through courteous interactions.”

The training’s key objective was intended to arm Local Authority Supervisors with the skills necessary to ensure a cordial relationship with residents, with a view to improving public relations.

These workshops are a component of ZDDT’s Local Authority Capacity Building Programme which is intended to ultimately enhance service delivery and receives funding from development partner GIZ, and the German Government.
